Thank you to all those who completed the recent survey on the Jackson Street proposal to extend the area covered by the targeted rate to the area bounded by Cuba Street, Hutt Road, Jackson Street and The Esplanade.

Submissions opened on 8 May 2019 and close at 5.00 pm on 4 June 2019.

The submission form can be accessed through clicking this link http://iportal.huttcity.govt.nz/Record/ReadOnly?Tab=3&Uri=5229991 and then click the submit button when completed.  All documents relating to this proposal are also available on the Hutt City Council’s website www.huttcity.govt.nz/jacksonstreet; or at the Hutt City Council Administration Building, 30 Laings Road, Lower Hutt; or at all Hutt City Council libraries; and the Jackson Street Programme, 274b Jackson Street, Petone.  If you prefer to email this submission form you can do this directly to submissions@huttcity.govt.nz with subject line: Jackson Street.

Currently the JSP is performing at the maximum level possible with the funding available to it.  Increased funding will bring great benefits for all business in the targeted rate area from the increased ability for the JSP to run events, seminars, advocate for businesses, work with Council to attract larger numbers of visitors to Petone and ultimately the wider Lower Hutt.  For example, JSP will be able to expand the work they are currently doing with Council’s Events and Promotions team, the Great Harbour Way promotion, and the provision of information about other attractions in the wider Hutt Valley.

Points to note:

  • Will the targeted rate on Jackson Street increase? ‘no, it will decrease for those paying at present’
  • Will targeted rates increase the rates for the new targeted areas (i.e. south of Jackson St.)? ‘yes, it equates to .00415411 cents in the dollar’
  • Does this effect personal dwellings? ‘no’
